Job Description
The IRS Internship Program offers students who are current IRS employees an opportunity to gain practical work experience and explore potential career paths. This program is part of the IRS Pathways Internship Program, designed to integrate classroom learning with work experience. Students in high school, college, or any post-secondary accredited program are encouraged to apply. Participants must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and adhere to all program requirements to be eligible for conversion to a permanent role upon successful completion.
Responsibilities
- Manage, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing documents.
- Maintain accurate records and update files using automated systems.
- Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, personnel records maintenance, and inventory tracking.
- Review and refine standard procedures under the guidance of supervisors.
- Prepare reports, memos, and summaries for internal use.
Qualifications
- Education: Must be currently enrolled on at least a half-time basis in a qualifying educational institution (e.g., high school, vocational, technical, undergraduate, or advanced degree program).
- GPA: A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required.
- Experience: Experience requirements vary by grade level, with opportunities to qualify based on both education and experience.
Experience Requirements
- GS-01: Enrolled in a high school diploma or GED program.
- GS-02: High school diploma or GED; OR three months of general experience in clerical or related work.
- GS-03: One full academic year of post-high school study; OR six months of related clerical experience.
- GS-04: Two years of post-high school study or an associate degree; OR one year of related experience.
- GS-05: Four years of post-high school study or a bachelor’s degree; OR one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04.
